Practice Summary
(how it works, how you measure it)
The Division
of HIV/STD of the Virginia Department of Health routinely conducts
evaluation studies to validate HIV/AIDS reporting completeness
throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. The validation studies
are conducted by trained epidemiologists who conduct these studies
with health departments, hospitals, and private providers. Virginia's
HIV reporting completeness is measured by a formula that assesses
total cases reported and new cases ascertained during the study.
Impact
on the Process Organizational Performance (OUTCOMES)
The
Division maintains strong HIV/AIDS reporting throughout Virginia.
The average reporting completeness in Virginia is 90%. To date,
over 1,500 HIV/AIDS cases have been added to Virginia's HIV/AIDS
morbidity figures. These data are used to monitor the epidemic,
to target prevention efforts, and to allocate resources for
prevention and treatment of HIV.

it is not found, you are invited to e-mail the Commonwealth Competition
Council with the topic you are interested in, and an attempt will
be made to contact one of the Virginia state government agencies
responsible for that issue.
